$450-$500 hand sun

I feel like I'm in control of my environment anytime I head outside in the dark now, anything with eyes, I can visually disarm and subdue at the click of a button, prying eyes in any part of town are no longer a threat to me now, there is no environment too dark, nothing too difficult to see, with this ridiculously bright torch, you may as well not even bother going outside during the day anymore. And when I'm in the woods, it gets even better, wielding a mini sun in one hand allows me to ensure that there is no camouflage nor cloaking technology that will fool me, healthy eyes being fed a steady stream of ocular vitamins in combination with the finest and most professionally crafted illumination technology makes for the ultimate nocturnal observation experience. However there are issues. The strap's flimsy, and weak, I feel like I could tear it off with a simple yank, haven't tried it but I think it should be stronger. There's no spare battery so if this one fails, I have to wait for another one to arrive in the mail, as a matter of fact there are no spare parts for the torch at all, if you're someone who enjoys using it to its fullest potential, you'll be disappointed by the short battery life, 2.5 hours at full power, it's only fun when it lasts. There's no way to tell how much battery life you have when you charge it, it's either red for CHARGING or green for FULLY CHARGED, I want to be able to tell exactly how much charge time is left so I can disconnect it just before it reaches 100%, otherwise I could damage the battery by overcharging it and that shortens the battery life, even if by a minute amount, this can easily be patched by being able to see a full set of schematics and diagnostics that show you everything about the battery, when you connect it to a computer via USB. Boost mode lasts for 10 seconds only, and while you can double tap indefinitely after the end of every boost mode session, it gets tedious having to constantly double tap, but that's just my opinion. The strobe function can not be modified for intensity regulation, so if I want to point the beam at someone's face while the light strobes, but I want the light to be mild, I can't make the strobe mild from what I've learned, this is not a huge issue however, I'm just nitpicking. The focus mode is very useful as well, being able to switch on the fly between POINT and FLOOD LIGHT is a feature other torches don't do as efficiently as this one, however I can't help but notice that as I switch, the lubrication inside the shaft where the head of the torch is begins to dissipate, and I don't know how to add lubricant for smooth transitioning between POINT and FLOOD LIGHT, not a big deal again but it's maybe something to think about. Aside from all that, it's one of the best torches I've ever used, it's also coincidentally one of the first torches I've ever personally owned, the torches I've used throughout my life up until the LedLenser P18R were all either borrowed or temporarily taken and then returned. With that said, the first impressions of this torch are really good, the only flaws really are just the battery life and the lack of any real way to identify the charge time when the torch is hooked up to the wire. So here are the pros and cons and then my final conclusions. Pros: bright, you'll see a whole lot outside and inside unless you're in a singularity The steel shell that harbors the internal mechanisms of the torch ensures that it's essentially armored, feels like it's high carbon steel, very nice to the palm of my hand Boost mode is good for squeezing out the very 100% power level for if you really need to see something or blind someone It all looks so professional and well made, feels like it was even hand crafted, certainly a great deal more human than many of the soulless Chinese competitors on the market The battery is rechargeable so you don't have to constantly replace it every now and then It's got a strobe function for those times when you really need to disorient a potential threat, be it a bear or a man pointing a rifle at you, the strobe function is a great non-lethal self defense feature, don't point it at law enforcement officers, they don't like that Cons: short battery life at the second highest power setting, the first is Boost mode, the second would be the first one you get when you switch it on to clarify Cannot tell the charge level when charging the torch No spare parts, weak strap, no lubricant or details on how to properly clean the torch if it gets dirty, wiping the charging cord and charging port with a cloth does not count because it does not directly affect the efficacy of the lumen production when the torch is being used No quick lock or unlock feature, locking and unlocking the torch will always require a 5-second delay, locking the torch allows you to store it wherever and not worry about it accidentally pressing up against something which will turn it on, in a situation where you're being surrounded by thugs or chased by a bear, even two seconds can mean the difference between life and death, 5 seconds is three more than two There's no lens cover, the torch comes with the lens exposed in the box, you have to make your own and while that's easy, you shouldn't have to Strobe intensity cannot be modified as far as I know, it's on the second brightest setting and it stays there Boost mode only lasts 10 seconds, and then reverts back to whatever light setting you had prior to activating boost mode, not to be confused with PS4 PRO boost mode, this is a torch, you can double tap again after boost mode ends and turn it back on but that becomes tedious after a whole minute or two All in all, it's a very good torch if you can look past all the cons, one of the best there ever was, German engineering, folks, to conclude this review, I mean this when I say this, LedLenser are to the illumination industry, what Heckler And Koch or even Sig Sauer are to the firearms industry, quality, effort, luxury, I will never regret this purchase.
